This image is made up of eight photographs.
The central elements are clematis and peoni. Round the edge are sedum heads and bougainvillea taken from my stock of photographs. The leaves have been extracted from free stock photos.
I used brightness/contrast adjustment layers on most imported layers so that they had similar tonal values with the rest. I used the smudge tool to blend. I also repainted additional light and dark colours on most layers to match up with the general light direction.
Using ArtRage, I created a rough canvas paper which I painted very lightly with crayon and exported it as a jpeg. I placed this over the final merged layers and applied a Soft Light blending mode. This layer was also reduced to about 45% opacity. The aim was to give the whole picture the look of a 'tromp l'oeil' painting on canvas.
