Photographs - Improved or Repaired

The original photograph on the far left was scanned at 600 ppi.  The transformation involved several Levels and Curves adjustment layers, some cloning and some hand painting.

Cloning and hand painting were done on separate layers so that alterations could be monitored and deleted if necessary without damaging previous work.

The focus in the original, particularly in the background is not good.  The window frame, the plant and the paving appear blurred.  This was improved using the Smart Sharpen tool in CS2. A layer mask was added to modify the sharpening effects a little round the face.

The Healing Brush tool improved the area round the eyes, the left side of the face and the left side of the neck.

Finally, a Selective Color mask  corrected the reddish tone caused partly by the scan.

The colour correction for this repair work was concentrated mainly on getting the skin tones as good as possible.  The background is difficult to sharpen too much without harsh edges and other problems.  There were many processes here including a good deal of cloning and painting on different masks.
